Hello !  I have the first set of pictures for American Bald Eagle Tales ready for posting.   2012 was really exciting and fun, we got to watch two eaglets grow up . J.C.  got a head start and these are the pictures from the Nikon camera.
This first picture was taken around evening time on 2-20-12 , of the adult male, American Bald Eagle . He was taking off on an evening flight .

One more pictures is on its way!

After  I told my eagle buddy J.C.  that I loved bluebirds,  I was sent this picture of a male that was taken on the same day . There was a bluebird house on the path to the nest.  When I went along, I never got to see any bluebirds, maybe just a quick glance of one flying off , but it was too fast to really be able to tell .
My eagle buddy was very lucky to capture this one on the same day.

On 2-21-12 when my eagle buddy, J.C. returned to the nest he saw this red shouldered hawk that was sitting up high on a light post on the way to the eagle's nest.  I am so lucky as a bird lover to be surrounded by so many different and special birds.

I have the next three pictures to share with all of you.

On 3-2-12 my eagle buddy J.C.  went back for another visit and the Nikon was ready for taking some pictures. The first picture is of the two eaglet siblings hanging out together in the nest. See how much they had grown?!

The next picture that the Nikon captured for my eagle buddy J.C. was of Mama .  As she was soaring through the sky.  That picture looks like it belongs on the front of a greeting card doesn't it? Or just as a reminder about our freedom .  She is free, and the sky is the limit for her and us.

The last picture from 3-2-12 is one of the eaglets as it  was spreading its wings.
My eagle buddy told me a little later that same week that I had better come and see the nest. Because, the eaglets were starting to show signs of getting ready to fly. So, I named a day and that was my first adventure, but my eagle buddy, J.C.  went a couple more times before that. I still have those pictures to share before I can share my first shots.

Next time I will have J.C.'s pictures that were taken with the Nikon on 3-3-12!

On the next day, which was 3-3-12,  J.C., my eagle buddy, saw the other eaglet practicing how to flap its wings.   Here is the picture that was taken with the Nikon.  The eaglet seemed to enjoy the wind under its wings.

On the morning of 3-4-12, J.C.  went to the nest , and on the way there was a puffed up male cardinal. So, the Nikon caught a shot of him full from a large breakfast, that is just a humble guess though. He might have been trying to keep warm, it was chilly here in March of 2012.

Then during the same visit J.C. observed the two adults, as they were having an important discussion that morning.  Maybe about who would be hunting, and who would be staying behind to watch the kids. Or maybe they were talking about what their next meal was going to be ,  Darling, do you want fish for lunch, or would you like something else?"   "I don't mind dear Papa, as long as you are the one bringing it to the nest, I have been working my wings off."  "Yes, Mama you stay here for a change, I am the provider, you are right, I have been making you do all of the hunting, so you watch the kids and enjoy your day."   "Oh thank you so much dear, that would be wonderful , I can't wait to sit in the nest , and relax, and watch our little ones of course."   That was just for fun lol.

Re:American Bald Eagle Tales 2012

Before I continued with the pictures of the eagles, I wanted to share some pictures I took of some animals that visited my birdfeeder on the afternoon of 3-7-12.  My first visitor started coming on that day, and I was delighted to see a squirrel. This squirrel reminded me more of the ones I saw around back at my old home.  I thought it was so cute, and it entertained me for a little while, as it tried to jump from my crepe myrtle over to the feeder, but I also loved watching the squirrel climb up the shepherd's hook, and swing around on the feeder , before he took his fill.  However, if a bird came along he would let the bird eat, and eat the seed on the ground , then when the bird left he would get back on it.  I didn't mind these visits at all, because he ate the seed and nuts in it when the birds were not around.  He also ate the big stuff the birds couldn't eat, so I saw it as a win /win.

Here is my first picture of my squirrel visitor on top of the crepe myrtle.
Just look at that face.  I took this picture from my window, and I decided to only show the ones where the screen was not in the way.

Stay tuned for more pictures from my backyard.

I also took these pictures, because I thought they would be great practice for my first eagle experience that was coming up on 3-9-12.  In this picture, the squirrel was getting ready to attempt a jump from the tallest branch to the feeder.  I also started to discover that the screen was making the pictures turn out funny, so I started to stand up on my daybed.

Here is the last picture from my backyard , the same cute squirrel as he ate on the ground. I always enjoyed the squirrel's visits, but I knew that these were wild animals, so I stayed inside and I also knew that it was a whole nother story when the squirrel got in the house.  I was an avid watcher of Billy The Exterminator , and I knew these animals were not pets , except in some cases if they were hand raised.  Which I loved that squirrel on Americas Got Talent , the one that could water ski, that was adorable !  I was glad they showed that clip, but they were right it was not a million dollar act, of course maybe more tricks could have been added.  It was cute anyway.

My eagle buddy, J.C. also took this picture on the morning of 3-8-12 . This picture is of one of the eaglets as it practiced flapping its wings, the eaglet was so powerful that it actually flew and kind of hovered right over the nest.

I am ready to share my first eagle experience, but I will post the pictures that J.C. took first.   On that morning I was very excited, and I could hardly sleep lol.  I managed though, then I got ready and did my morning routine, before I met up with J.C.  We walked to the nest , and it was a very nice walk, I made sure that I had my bird books with me for my first 2012 visit, so that we could watch the other birds too.
On our walk, J.C.  told me about the activity at the nest , and I got my camera ready for some pictures .  We started watching the nest and I had my camera aimed , and zoomed in. While I was trying to capture my first pictures of our American Bald Eagle friends, one of the eaglets played peek a boo with me. One minute it was up, the next minute it was down , and this happened right when I was ready to click it lol.  I managed to get one of them in a picture, and I thought I got a picture of Freedom as he left the nest.   I was in awe , he flew and soared right over us, and he joined a circle of other birds of prey I tried to take that , with my camera and head tilted to the sky.  It was kind of hard to shoot from way up there, at least for my camera .

Here is a picture that J.C. took of one of the eaglets that morning.

The story of my first 2012 eagle experience will continue on in the next post

My eagle buddy had no problem taking a picture of two of the birds in the circle.  One was a red tailed hawk, and the other a turkey vulture .  Papa eagle was in the middle, and I recalled what we had talked about in 2011, how the eagles did not like hawks, but they trust the vultures.  So, I found it interesting when Papa eagle was flying around with a red tailed hawk. I also was able to answer a question about the wingspan of the eagle, as they watched the eaglet spread out its wings.  If I remember I think I said 7 to 8 feet.
Here is the picture of the birds of prey .  I tried to make the picture a little bigger, and it made it fuzzy, so some pictures are meant to be small.

One more of J.C.'s  pictures from 3-9-12, and more of my first 2012 eagle experience is coming up.

After we watched our American Bald Eagle friends, we walked around and I saw this pretty yellow weed.  It looked like a flower, and I thought J.C. should take a picture.  Well, he agreed and took the picture lol.  We also saw these beautiful butterflies,   but by the time we both tried to take a picture they flew away.  Maybe next year, before we left J.C. said a prayer for those loved ones that had passed away, and I said, "Amen."  Then, we made our way back and we went down the peaceful path and on that path was the bluebird house.  I asked J.C. to send me a picture of the bluebird.   We talked about bluebirds , and he was lucky enough to see baby bluebirds.  I shared about my times at a state park I loved to go to when I lived in Indiana and how I would watch the bluebirds.  Their song is so pretty and unique.  I also told him about the time my dad saw two bluebirds in our front area, I was sleeping!  He thought about waking me, I told him that he should have, I would have loved seeing them around our house!  Anyway,  here is the picture of the yellow flower on the weed.

Before I shared the pictures that I took of the eagles on 3-9-12 .   I had some sad news I wanted to share. On 7-3-12 one of the three eaglets, the first one, they called, D12, had died in Decorah.  From what I gathered from reading the site J.C. showed me that night, there was a power line involved , and an electrical injury , the eaglets had just left the nest, it was very sad . The webcam was closed , but there were videos and other things you could watch, and pictures of the eagles in Decorah.  There was also a tribute on their message board for members there to light candles.

Now, here is my first picture that I took of one of the eaglets that was in the nest.
