Hello!  As I promised I am ready to begin sharing about one of my current Budgies, Sammy.  After my mom and I laid Charlie Blue to rest in an opposite flowerpot of Polly's hers is on the left and his is on the right. We went to Petco, after I gave Polly some friends to keep her company, anytime one of my feathered friends loses a friend, I play a recording of Petie, we also set up a fountain that has birds chirping, along with one of those Perfect Polly birds, only ours was named Clyde.  She chirped with Petie, and got the fountain to go, not sure if she interacted with Clyde. So, once we knew Polly was going to be okay, we went to Petco, to find her a new friend, and there were only two to choose from. I liked a bird that I definitely knew that he was a male, he had a blue nose.  Mom liked the other bird he was the same colors of some of my past birds named Petie, the budgie was cute though, so we decided to take him home.  A nice young man helped us get him, and he put him in a box for us, I filled out the paperwork. The adoption agreement if you will. Then we paid for him and in the car, we ran names by each other Toby was one of them, then I think my mom thought of Sammy, and yes it was after my albino cory Dora, that was named Sammy.  Sammy also worked if he actually did turn out to be a girl. 

We came home, he hung out in the box, while I finished setting up his cage, then I took the box to my room, and don't ask me why, but I wanted Polly to see her new friend, so I opened the box, and he flew out.  I tried to catch him, and I quickly got his cage, and I tried to lure him into the cage, he did not want to have anything to do with that. When it looked like he was going to stay outside of the cage for the night, I went online and looked for solutions.  This was one of the websites that came up in my search. My Budgie Refuses To Go Back To Cage | Budgerigars Forum

One of the tips was to make a trial with some food or treat to the cage, so that the bird would eat the trail and go back into the cage, or in my case go in the cage. So, we made a trail of spinach, and he came out to investigate it, he started out under my dresser, it has wooden bars, so he came out, I will just say that I did not get much sleep that night, I had to leave a light on to act like a night light, and I had a budgie/parakeet moving around and flying around at times, his wings were not clipped, btw, or they were and they rapidly grew back. I tried to bond with him too, I thought that if I could get him to stand on a ladder, that I could take him to the cage and get him in.  He came to me, he did get on the ladder and the perch that I tried too, but when he felt it lift off the ground, he got off. So, I spent some time getting what sleep I could, since I had to watch him, he did bump his little head on my closet, so I made sure he was alright, and he was, and this went into Friday the 23rd, and I had to make sure that he did not get out of my room, I had to keep my door shut, and yes I was praying, in case you all were wondering, yes I was praying so hard that Sammy would go to the cage.

Another dangerous thing, that night I turned off the light, not thinking and Sammy flew around my room in the dark!  Darkness usually makes them land, but he was the opposite. So, then we went into Saturday the 24th of February, and my mom helped me have victory.  She came into the room and Sammy came out from under my bed, he also had been spending time under my daybed and I told him before that was a big fat  problem there are barbed like wires under there, so this was getting to be an emergency, and after another prayer, I had the idea from GOD to have mom gently put her foot on Sammy's tail, he could not move, I quickly picked him up, and carried him on his back to his cage, I ignored his little bites and I put him in the cage.  We praised the LORD!  I was so happy that ordeal was over, and Sammy liked his cage, and I cleaned up everything the spinach, droppings, there were a few, but very easy to clean, and Sammy got used to his new home and he got to know Polly, which it scared her having a lose bird, it was an adventure for all of us.  So, that is the story of Sammy.
