My Last Visit To The Eagle's Nest

2013 was different for all of us, I did not get to go to the nest with my eagle buddy like I really wanted to.   I missed the eagles and thought about them a lot.   I just had obligations and responsibilities to take care of, one day in February of 2013, I saw one of the eagles fly over my house, and yes as silly as it sounds, I waved and said, "Hi."   I also made a promise to go back to the nest, and I had one opportunity to go two days after Easter.  When my eagle buddy invited me for that evening I jumped at the chance, I needed to go, I wanted to go and see the 2013 eaglets if only for one time.   That evening was beautiful, the weather was perfect, the sun was shining, and I got to see the family I knew and loved again.  I took some pictures and after several attempts I can finally share them.
This is my first picture that I took after we tracked down the family, the eaglets were already flying around so we had to literally run and chase them down for pictures.   But I loved watching them fly too, so I did not mind I thought it was kind of fun.

Here is my first picture that I took of one of the eagles sitting in the tree.

My second picture is of one of the eaglets with its back towards the camera.

I had more pictures when I originally posted them, but I can't find them and a lot of them were the same.  Sorry that I did not share very many pictures.

The third picture is of a windmill that was on a farm that was near the nest, and I took a picture while the sun was setting.

My eagle buddy and I had a chat about the night we thought that it was only something that God could design.  The breeze was gentle, the sky
looked amazing it was as if God designed it for us, it just felt that way.  We thanked God for the lovely evening.

Even after the sun went down there seemed to be just enough light to try to take some more pictures. So, I did.  Here is my fourth shot from my visit to the nest.  Which was the best time, because Mama and the other eaglet perched together in the tree and enjoyed the evening.

After we said, "Good night," to our eagle friends we headed back and sadly that was my last time to see two of the members of our beloved eagle family, two days later there was a very sad event. I will share about that in my next post.

Until Then, I hope you enjoy the pictures!
God Bless!

A Tragedy During A Very Bad Storm

I did not post about what happened until 2014 because, I really couldn't post about this I was still reeling from shock, and I was very sad.  Two days after our wonderful visit there was a really bad storm.  We had a lot of rain, lightning, and ferocious wind, I know because I was out in it and so were two of our eagle friends.  We will never know why the eaglet was out in it, but we do know that her mama was possibly trying to rescue her around an area of my community called the back gate.   The two of them were near power lines and they both were killed by electrocution. I am always sad when I hear an eagle has been killed, but this time it really hit close to home.   I was told the following Saturday by my eagle buddy he gave me the news during a phone call that was about the tragedy.   I was in shock, but I think I finally managed to say "Oh, no."   While I fought back my tears, I was also sent some pictures of the site, and I wanted to share this one with my visitors.   I know that we need an energy source, and that we are trying other ways, but even the wind turbines are killing birds of prey it is just sad.   That summer, I did try to reach out to my power company, they had to come out to see what had happened , so I gave them an URL to my pictures of our eagles and asked them if we could have a platform or something similar to what a boy scout troop in Decorah did for the eagle family there, they have a safe place for the eagles to land now.  So, I tried to ask them about it, and I told them in my e-mail about the safe place for the eagles in Decorah, I never really had a reply, but maybe someone looked at the website at least, and maybe all of our eagles will have a safe and happy future.

After the storm was over, things really changed for the eagles, I will share more news next time.

Until then, God Bless!

After The Storm     This was posted in December of 2014.

After the storm and tragic death of two of my eagle friends, I still got reports from time to time about the eagle family from my eagle buddy. He told me that Florida Fish & Wildlife came and took the deceased adult eagle, that we were pretty sure was the mature female and her eaglet with them to find out how they died and other details.   He thought it might have helped if they allowed the surviving eagles to find them, because the two of the remaining members of the family were daily searching and calling for the others.  That was sad to here, but over time they stopped searching, and another female eagle was hanging around them, according to another report from my eagle buddy.  He kept me informed while I worked endlessly on an assignment for my former class in school.   I was happy to hear that, but it really did not last too long after Papa, chased her off.
He also had to train the other eaglet, and on a very special day I did not have to go to the nest the eagles came to me!  I was either taking the cover off my bird feeder, or I had filled it with bird seed, but anyway I heard the eaglet's call.  My eagle buddy came out after I ran around to the front of my house, and we saw Papa training the other eaglet, in the art of flying.  She followed him up higher and higher until they were little specks in the heavens it was really special, and I will never forget it.   I did not even fuss with my camera it was not worth it, I just stored the moments in my heart.
My eagle buddy also shared a special slide presentation with me that day, and I tried not to cry when pictures of Mama were shown, the computer club put his pictures together in a tribute to her it was beautiful, and I was so glad he shared it with me.   We thought that Papa would take off again, but he stayed around through the summer, and I had some visits to the nest by myself, but I did not take my camera because Papa had a new friend he was trying to get to know, and she seemed really shy to me.  She was also cautious, so I just enjoyed walking to the nest site and spotting the two of them if they were around.
Then, I became really sick again and I went through some rough times, so I did not have the time, or the energy to go to the nest.  I really wanted to, my eagle buddy showed me pictures and there was one where Papa and the new gal pal I called were still getting to know each other, he tried to move closer on a branch they were on and she did not welcome his attempts, poor thing had his head hanging low , so it was a new beginning for all of us.  This year, I heard they were back but not going to the nest yet, and my eagle buddy moved back up north so I hope to go back and continue my own American Bald Eagle Tales with my own pictures.  I would also love a better camera but right now I am busy getting ready for Christmas and working on an important school assignment.
Until Then
God Bless
